The vineyards in Barbaresco (about three hectares)
are just below Socré’s wine cellar, and are the heart and soul
of the business. Coming from Alba, they are about a kilometre
before the hamlet Tre Stelle, and have incredible views. The
land slopes downwards quite steeply, with western and southern
exposure; the land’s altitude is between 250 and 290m above sea
level. The earth is mainly clayey, with a limestone base and
sharp alkaline reaction.
In Cisterna d’Asti (between the Monferrato area
and the Roero area), apart from the traditional, barbera,
croatina and arneis vines, you’ll also find newer vineyards
growing cabernet sauvignon and melot. The land around Cisterna
d’Asti slopes downwards with southern to eastern exposure and an
altitude between 240m and 270 a.s.l. The earth is clayey on a
limestone base.
There are about 2 hectares of Socré’s vineyards in Cisterna
D’Asti.
Barbera, dolcetto, nebbiolo and bussanello ( a
variation of a white grape born from Riesling Italico and
furmint) are all cultivated in Alba.
A few kilometres from Barbaresco, lies the new and
important vineyard in Neviglie , which is about 4 hectares.
Apart from older vineyards (being moscato and dolcetto), new
vineyards have been planted baring nebbiolo, barbera, dolcetto,
merlot, syrah, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc. It has a southern
to eastern exposure and the land is extremely steep sloping
downhill. The altitude here beats Barbaresco’s as it’s between
300 and 350m a.s.l. |
